GrumboElope

Analog photo and film for elopements

Japan and Korea first. Still photographs and motion on the same day. Vintage grain, place before posing.

Adam Grumbo is a photographer, videographer, and filmmaker. He photographs and films destination elopements in Japan, Korea, Colorado, Ashford in North Carolina, and Ireland. Analog is the vibe for both stills and motion.

Japan

Kyoto, Fuji, Tokyo, the islands

Kyoto before the buses. Fuji when the lake is still.

Jeju volcanic coast and green headland

Korea

Seoul, Jeju, Busan, hanok light

A hanok court in late light. Jeju wind. Seoul after the rain.

Places

Also Colorado, Ashford, Ireland

All places

Japan and Korea are the emphasis. The other places are real days I will fly for.

Craft

Stills and motion. Analog for both.

Stills

Digital photographs as the through line. 35mm when we want grain on paper too. Quiet frames from the same day as the film.

Super 8

Small gauge, grain, flicker. The look of something kept in a drawer and found again.

16mm

Wider analog. Ceremonial weight. The print beside the grain.

4K

The cinematic through line. Pace, sound, and a film you can sit down and watch together.

Hire one person for stills and motion. Analog-only film if you already have a photographer. I make the work. I do not send a stranger with a camera.

The long way there

A traveling photographer and filmmaker

Photo and film with heart and love. I have made photographs and films for more than 15 years, analog for most of that. Japan and Korea are the emphasis. I also fly for Colorado, Ashford in North Carolina, Ireland, and wherever you are.

I am not based in Kyoto. I do not staff four Japan regions. If you need a planner, I can introduce people I trust.

About Adam

Process

Three steps. Then the work.

  1. 01

    Share the feeling

Names, a country, a season, and what the day should feel like. I read it myself.

  2. 02

    We design the days

Place, pace, and craft: stills, 4K, Super 8, 16mm. A planner if you need one.

  3. 03

You live it. I make it

I travel from the United States. I hold the stills and the motion cameras. No hired-out shooters.

How a day gets made

Questions, answered plainly

Can we hire you for photo and video on the same day?

Yes. Still photographs and motion are one offering. I photograph and film the day myself. You do not need a second vendor unless you already have a photographer and only want analog motion.

Do you shoot Super 8 and stills together?

Yes. Super 8 sits beside still photographs, 16mm, and 4K. Analog is the vibe for both stills and motion. Digital stills are the through line. 35mm stills when the day calls for paper grain too.

Are you a photographer, a videographer, or a filmmaker?

All three. Adam Grumbo is a photographer, videographer, and filmmaker. GrumboElope is destination elopement photo and film. Vintage, place-first, analog in the kit.

Can US couples legally marry in Japan or Korea, or is this symbolic?

I photograph and film either. A legal marriage and a symbolic vow are both days worth making. I am not a lawyer and I am not the planner. Confirm with your home records office what they will recognize, then we make the day you actually have.

Do we need to speak Japanese or Korean?

No. I work in English. If a shrine, hanok, or vendor needs Japanese or Korean, a trusted local planner can carry that so you are not translating your own wedding day.

Do you shoot analog or digital?

Both. Digital stills and cinematic 4K are the through line. Super 8 and 16mm are the analog spine for motion. 35mm stills when we want grain on paper. Analog is a craft, not a filter.

Can you work alongside a local photographer?

Yes. Many couples already have a stills person. I can make analog-only motion: Super 8 and 16mm beside their photographs. I hold the cameras myself. I do not hire out the work to a stranger.

What destinations do you travel to?

Japan and Korea are the emphasis: Kyoto, Mt Fuji and Hakone, Tokyo, Okinawa, Seoul, Jeju, and Busan. I also take Colorado, and I am opening Ashford in North Carolina and Ireland at the Cliffs of Moher. I travel from Austin and Colorado in the United States.

What happens if it rains?

Rain photographs and films well. Wet stone, umbrellas at a distance, Tokyo or Seoul when the street turns into glass. We plan a covered hour and we stay out in it when the day wants that.

How do travel and lodging work?

I travel from the United States (Austin and Colorado). I am not based in Kyoto or Seoul, and I do not keep a four-region Japan staff. You handle your flights and rooms unless a planner is already on the job. I invoice travel honestly after we shape the dates.

How is pricing set?

Inquiry-led and custom. Day count and craft (photography, 4K film, Super 8, 16mm) shape the quote. There is no public price grid and no checkout package. Write first. I reply in English.

Inquire

Tell me the place and the feeling

Write with a season, a country, and whether you want stills, film, or both. I reply in English. No grid. No pressure.
